The Founder's Crucial Role: Mastering Sales from Day One
Why Every Successful Venture Begins with the Founder's Sales
— Author: Vladimir Super-BusinessDad —
If you are thinking of starting a business, this is a text for you.
TL;DR
Everyone has ideas, but turning them into successful businesses is tough.
To succeed, learn to sell your product or service confidently.
Start by believing in your product, preparing an irresistible offer, and taking action to sell.
You Have the Idea
Let’s dispel a common misconception right away: Everyone has ideas. I mean, literally, EVERYONE. And it's not just one idea but many ideas.
Sometimes, I imagine myself navigating through a crowd of ideas instead of people on the sidewalk. However, the unfortunate reality is that most of these ideas will never come to fruition. And why is that?
From the moment of inspiration to owning a yacht or a private jet, the journey is arduous and intricate. I won’t delve into the myriad obstacles and challenges along the way here. Instead, to get a better understanding, consider the advice of Jensen Huang, Nvidia founder, and CEO, who once cautioned, “Don’t Start a Company.”
Let's face it, turning an idea into a profitable business is tough. Really tough.
But I want to try it. What should I do?
If I had to guide you towards one answer only, it would be this: Learn to sell.
Why?
If you believe that building a product is the most challenging part of the journey, you're in for a surprise. And if you think you can simply build a product, throw it over the wall, and hope someone will use it and pay for it, you're setting yourself up for failure.
It's normal to feel afraid. It's okay to feel discomfort. But you must step out of your comfort zone.
You must do the hard work yourself. No one else will.
Open your LinkedIn messages and start writing.
Send that email.
Pick up your phone and make that call.
SELL YOUR PRODUCT.
You believe in your product or service more than anyone. You're convinced of its value. Now, you just need to confidently present it to potential buyers.
Once you've closed a few deals, then you can consider expanding your sales team. But for now, lead by example. If you can do it, they can do it too.
How can I quickly do it?
Let's break it down.
1. Be sold on the product you’re selling
You need to genuinely believe in your product. Use it yourself and know that there's no better alternative out there.
Since you've built it, this part is already covered.
Done.
2. Prepare an irresistible sales offer

But remember, you don't need to strive for perfection right away. You just need to get started and be okay with taking that first step.
Immediate Action: Three Key Steps to Implement Now
To get started quickly:
Believe in Your Product: You must 100% believe in your product's value and benefits.
Craft an Irresistible Offer: Prepare a compelling sales pitch that highlights the unique value proposition of your product or service.
Take Action: Begin reaching out to potential customers through emails, phone calls, social networks, referrals, or networking events to start selling your product.
Final words
Salespeople are like micro supply and demand agents, holding the supply in their back pocket and observing where there's unsatisfied demand for it.
You should identify where your product/service is needed around you and connect those people with your offer.
Remember, your product or service can genuinely help others and make their lives easier. Don't be selfish in withholding that gem from them. Overcome your inner doubts and take the step to share what you have to offer.
Make the step.
